Karaganda, July 20, 2010, Khabar - Kazakhstan’s metallurgists have celebrated their professional holiday with the city of Zhezkazgan staging the Karaganda region’s largest celebratory events. The city honoured those who are continuing the traditions of the first copper smelters of this region. Over the past years, the region has built a powerful complex producing high-quality copper.

Serik Akhmetov, Karaganda region governor:
- At a celebratory meeting devoted to the 50th anniversary of the Republic’s metallurgical industry, the Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev held a high opinion of the work being done by metallurgists and highlighted the special role of this sphere in the development of the country’s economy.

The children and grandchildren of metallurgists and dressers made the most touching congratulations announced on that day.

- Even though we are growing, we always hail friendship and we will be metallurgists just like our parents and grandparents were.

The renewed Yer Tostik nursery school also opened ahead of the holiday. The city residents also enjoyed the reconstructed square of the first builders which now has a beautiful fountain. Moreover, a museum of copper smelting and a new stadium have opened in the city as well.
