PRESIDENT: DON`T GIVE CHILDREN UNLIMITED FREEDOM

Jakarta, July 23 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked parents to guide their children properly and not to let them have unlimited and aimless freedom.

"Although children have rights and must not be dictated to or be forced to follow parents' own wishes , it must be ensured that they have good moral, attitude, manners and future goals," President Yudhoyono said when speaking at a function celebrating National Children's Day at TMII (Beautiful Indonesia In Miniature Park) here Friday.

"We should give them freedom to choose their future goals and the way they will pursue their future, but help them to make sure that they have taken the right choice and way," he said.

The recent porn video case should become a lesson so that it would not be repeated in the future, he said.

With the right guidance, the head of state was sure that the Indonesian children would have better future as many of them are skillful in various fields.

President Yudhoyono also expressed his optimism regarding the Indonesian children's future as he had met a number of genius and potential children.

He called for concrete and serious actions to help improve the conditions of the country's children.

On the occasion President Yudhoyono was accompanied by a number of ministers, including Women's Empowerment and Children's Protection Minister Linda Amelia Gumelar.

Themed "Indonesian Children Study for The Future", the peak event of National Children's Day also featured a mass painting program involving 6,600 children on the theme of "Green Indonesia" which was expected to break a MURI record.
