S. Korean pastor detained in Libya over alleged religious law violation

SEOUL, July 23 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean Christian pastor has been detained in
Libya over allegations that he violated the Muslim nation's religious law, a
Seoul government official said Friday.
The pastor, whose identity was withheld, was taken into custody about a month ago
while on missionary work in the African nation for allegedly violating the local
religious law, a foreign ministry official said on condition of anonymity.
"He was first listed as missing," the official said. "While trying to find out
his whereabouts, we've learned from Libyan authorities that he was under
questioning," the official said without providing further details.
Libya is expected to provide more details after its probe is over, the official
said.
South Korean Christian workers are known for their aggressive missionary work
overseas, even in Muslim nations where proselytizing is banned.
