Hyundai Steel Q2 earnings drop 41 pct

SEOUL, July 29 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Steel Co., South Korea's No. 2 steelmaker,
said Thursday that its second-quarter earnings dropped 41 percent from a year
earlier due to currency-related losses.
Net profit reached 168 billion won (US$142 million) in the April-June period,
compared with a profit of 284 billion won year earlier, the company said in a
regulatory filing.
Sales jumped 40 percent to 2.72 trillion won over the cited period, and operating
income more than doubled to 347 billion won, it said.
