PERTAMINA : NATIONAL FUEL OIL SUBSIDY SURPASSES QUOTA

Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan, Indonesia, Aug 14 (ANTARA) - The national fuel oil subsidy has surpassed the government's quota, state-owned company Pertamina's director of marketing and commerce, Djaelani Sutomo, said.

The subsidy or public service obligation was now above 5 to 7 percent of the total quata for 2010 totalling 36.5 million kilo liters, he said here on Saturday.

The excess in subsidy occurred due to an increasing number of motor vehicles, growing at an average of five million a year, he said.

He said Pertamina had already sent a report about it to the government but Pertamina's PSO allocation for 2010 had even dropped by 40 million kiloliters compared to 2009.

"Now we are seeking an additional quota so that Pertamina will not suffer more," he said.

Djaelani said in 2009 Pertamina had to bear the excess up to Rp4.5 trillion and this year it is expected to bear Rp3 to Rp4 trillion.

He hoped the government could suppress the growth of motor vehicles so that it would not continue to rise sharply.

He said due to the growth cases of hoarding also increased. People take whatever ways to be able to collect more fuel oils to be retailed later at a higher price such as modifying the tanks of their motor vehicles to receive more oil.

"Some cars that normally can only receive 100 liters have been modified so that they can receive 200 liters," he said.

Regarding the case in South Kalimantan, he said, that many industries that have to use non-subsidized diesel oil in the region buy subsidized oil.

"Just observe. Those who come to gas stations are trucks from palmoil and also other industries. That is why long queues are often seen at gas stations in the region while such thing does not happen in Java," he said.
