S. Korean G-20 committee to host meeting for emerging economies

SEOUL, Aug. 16 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's preparatory committee for the G-20 Seoul
Summit said Monday it will hold next month a conference for emerging economies to
boost their interest and participation in the summit slated for November.
The two-day meeting, to be hosted jointly by the Financial Stability Board (FSB),
will kick off on Sept. 2 in Seoul, according to the Presidential Committee for
the G-20 Summit slated for Nov. 11-12 in Seoul.
The conference is expected to bring together some 400 officials and scholars from
dozens of emerging countries including Sweden, Hong Kong and Singapore, together
with the G-20 economies, the committee added.
The September meeting aims to discuss ways to encourage emerging market economies
to join G-20 efforts toward devising regulatory measures and to better reflect
their interests in the summit agenda, the committee said.
"We will discuss a broader spectrum of issues such as desirable roles the host
country would play in the successful November summit and the future path the
forum will take in a post-crisis world," a committee official said.
