EXIM and JBIC ready to lend for environmental protection

BANGKOK, Aug 17 (TNA) – The Export and Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM) is ready to expand its cooperation with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) in lending for environmental protection purposes.

Speaking after a discussion with visiting JBIC President and CEO Hiroshi Watanabe, EXIM chairman Naris Chaiyasoot said the Japanese institution advised guidelines for cooperation in lending for environmental conservation purposes.

Under the cooperation, JBIC will provide loans to EXIM so that it may channel them to investment projects contributing to environmentally friendly economic growth.

The cooperation will help boost the bilateral trade and investment between Thailand and Japan to strengthen the economies of both countries and the Asian economy.

He said JBIC and the export and import banks of countries which belong to the Asian EXIM Banks Forum are scheduled to sign an agreement for risk management on September 29 in Seoul.

Both can use the accord to outline the master plan for the bilateral agreement between member banks which provide insurance or re-insurance services in support of international trade.

In other words, one bank lends to exporters, purchasers or financial institutions in the form of loans or guarantees and another bank provides insurance or reinsurance services. (MCOT online news)
