Japanese students present 75,000 signatures for nuke disarmament+

GENEVA, Aug. 19 Kyodo -
A group of six high school students from Nagasaki and other Japanese
prefectures on Thursday presented Jarmo Sareva, deputy director general of the
U.N. Conference on Disarmaments in Geneva, with some 75,000 signatures of
people calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons.
Before presenting the signatures collected in Japan and other countries, the
17-year-old Masanori Aoki, one of the six high school messengers of peace, said
young people should convey the message that after Hiroshima and Nagasaki there
should never be a third city targeted with an atomic bomb.
Pledging that the United Nations will strive to eliminate nuclear weapons,
Sareva added his signature to the list.
It is the 13th time that Japanese high school messengers of peace have visited
a U.N. office since 1998.
