MORE BUILDINGS TO ACCORDED MSC MALAYSIA CYBERCENTRE STATUS




KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The Multimedia Development Corporation
plans to accord two buildings in the Klang Valley with the MSC Malaysia
Cybercentre status by year-end, Chief Executive Officer Badlisham Ghazali said
Thursday.

Presently, there are 19 MSC Malaysia cybercities and cybercentres in
operation nationwide.

"It has always been our aim. We are continuously evaluating more buildings,"
he told reporters after according the MSC Malaysia Cybercentre status to GTower
here Thursday.

Badlisham said the government was committed to the rollout of cybercities
and cybercenters to ensure the development and benefits of MSC Malaysia were
extended to the business communities.

Moving forward, he said the rollout of MSC Malaysia cybercenters would
continue based on industry demand and readiness of potential sites.

He said each MSC Malaysia cybercity and cybercenter, which had its own
unique strength and niche area, would be linked to form a synergistic network
of smart communities in the country.

Over the long-term, it is hoped that the rollout of MSC Malaysia
will gradually transform the Klang Valley into a globally competitive location
that is favoured by knowledge-based industries and global citizens.

Badlisham said as the driver of the national ICT initiative, MDeC is
dedicated to ensure MSC Malaysia can offer the world's best environment.

To date, he said there were more than 3,000 ICT companies in Malaysia,
many of which were becoming renowed in the regional and global market.

MSC Malaysia is home to over 2,500 local and multinational MSC Malaysia
status companies involved in various ICT clusters namely InfoTech, Shared
Services and Outsourcing and Creative Multimedia.
