MALAYSIAN PM'S WIFE INVITED TO DELIVER SPEECH IN BANGLADESH




PUTRAJAYA, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister's wife Rosmah Mansor
Thursday received an invitation to deliver a speech at the International
Conference on Women Education at the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh
next January.

Rosmah received the invitation from the wife of former British Prime Minister
Tony Blair, Cherie Blair, who made a courtesy call on her at the Prime
Minister's official residence in Seri Perdana here Thursday.

The Prime Minister's wife said she felt very honoured by the invitation and
believed Malaysia can contribute immensely based on experience in encouraging
education among Malaysian women.

"May be I will speak on something about education for girls and will make time
to be at the conference," she told reporters during a joint press conference
here Thursday.

Cherie Blair who is also patron of the university and co-chairwoman of the
conference said Rosmah was invited based on her wide knowledge and passion for
the welfare of children and women, especially in education.

The Asian University for Women was set up in Bangladesh three years ago,
educating students from all over the world, including from countries like
Vietnam, Afghanistan, Bhutan and Palestine.

During the meeting, they also discussed issues involving widows and single
mother and agreed that Malaysia should play a leading role in the campaign to
persuade the United Nations to recognise June 23, as International Day for
Widows.

Cherie Blair is on a three-week holiday in Malaysia and will be leaving home
Friday morning.
