“Self-knowledge” subject to be introduced
Astana, August 20, 2010 (Khabar) - After ten years of experimental testing, the ministry of education and science has decided to introduce a “self-knowledge” subject into all the academic programs of nursery schools, secondary schools, universities and colleges in Kazakhstan. Sara Nazarbayeva is an initiator and encourager of this project. The first lady of Kazakhstan noted that the “self-knowledge” course’s main aim is to help individuals find personal fulfillment and their place in the sun, reveal the best qualities of their personalities, keep dignity and always be a human with a capital “H”.
Sara Nazarbayeva, president, “Bobek” foundation:
- The entire humankind has to revert to human values. We have to remain humans regardless of who we are either some king or a humble worker; we have to retain our personal essence. I believe this is what self-knowledge is all about.
Sara Nazarbayeva was awarded with the “Stars of Commonwealth” certificate for her dedicated work in both moral and spiritual education as well as the protection of maternity and childhood. This award is given by the council and the Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation for achievements in the area of science, education, culture and art. Teachers and instructors who underwent retraining at the “Bobek” center will be teaching the new subject at schools and universities for the time being. Previously, there was a shortage of textbooks on “self-knowledge” at some schools whereas this year there will be no problems with teaching aids, believes the minister for education and science Zhanseit Tuimebayev.
Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Kazakh Minister of Education and Science:
- This branch of study will open at teaching colleges and institutions. And later we will fully introduce it to our education facilities. We will start training personnel in accordance with the “self-knowledge” subject from this year. We’ve supplied all the regions with a sufficient amount of training aids.
The experiment has already be highly assessed and the scientists say introducing of “Self-knowledge” subject will give a new impetus for successes in upbringing of young generation.
