Public utilities bills to be recalculated

Astana, August 20, 2010 (Khabar) - Kazakhstan’s consumers have overpaid over half a billion tenge for central heating last winter. In order to return the money, the agency for natural monopolies and energy bodies’ officials are now recalculating the cost of consumed heating. Officials at the Agency for natural monopolies also noted that Kazakhstan’s consumers will be returned over 650 million tenge for the past heating season.
Anatoliy Shkarupa, deputy head, Kazakhstan Agency for natural monopolies:
- These are the measures that we are using in order to protect consumers. There is no need to apply for recalculation because it will be done automatically by correction of new bills. For instance, the return sum will be up to 2,212 tenge for a three-room flat with the total area of 70 square metres.
Officials at the agency also stated that those people of Kazakhstan who had no metres had to pay from 20% to 40% more. Once they set such counters they will be paying for the consumed heating energy and there will be no more calculations to be performed.
