TAIWAN RANKS FIFTH AS BALI'S SOURCE OF FOREIGN TOURISTS



Denpasar, Bali, Sept 6 (ANTARA) - The number of Taiwanese tourists visiting Bali rose 12.53 percent to 78,059 in the first seven months of 2010 compared with the figure in the same period last year, putting Taiwan in fifth place as a source of foreign tourists.

All but one Taiwanese tourist came to Bali by direct flights over the period, head of the Bali provincial statistics office Ida Komang Wisnu said here on Monday.

Last year, 111,146 Taiwanese tourists visited Bali, down 8 percent from the previous year when the figure was 120,810 he said.

"The improving Taiwanese economy is expected to increase the number of Taiwanese tourists visiting Bali in the upcoming years," he said.
The Taiwanese tourists were made up of 5.44 percent of the overall tourist arrivals in the resort island in the year to July 2010 reaching 1,435,016, up 9.90 percent from the same period last year.

Taiwan ranked fifth as Bali's source of foreign tourists in the first seven months of 2010 after Australia, Japan, China and Malaysia,
He said the number of Australian tourists visiting Bali in the first seven months of 2010 jumped 51.07 percent to 341,664 from 225,170, China 1.01 percent to 118,008 from 116,624, Britain 8.81 percent to 51.491 from 48,029, Singapore 56.71 percent to 48,020 from 30,839, and The Netherlands 26.78 percent to 46,347 from 36,557.

However, the number of tourists from Japan fell 23,90 percent from 186,265 to 141,743, Malaysia 4.17 percent from 83,909 to 80,406, South Korea 4.15 percent from 74,096 to 71,019 and France 4.78 percent from 59,595 to 56,744, he said.
