TEMBLOR DAMAGES ONE HOUSE IN YOGYAKARTA



Yogyakarta, Sept 13 (ANTARA) - One house was damaged after being hit by a magnitude-5.0 earthquake in Yogyakarta, Sunday (Sept 12) at 11.38 pm local time.

"The damaged house belongs to Ros and is located at Krapyak, Panggungharjo, Sewon. Its roof was damaged," Giyanto of the Bantul chapter of the Indonesian Red Cross, said, here Monday.

The house was empty when the quake occurred as its owner and other tenants had gone out of town to celebrate Idul Fitri with their families.

The temblor was felt quite strongly in Bantul but it did not cause any damage, he said.

A number of residents went into a panic when the earthquake shook Yogyakarta and Bantul. They rushed out of their houses, but a few minutes later they returned to their respective houses, according to Giyanto.

The temblor's epicenter was located at 8.10 degrees southern latitude, 10.37 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of 10 km below sea level, around 23 km southeast of Bantul, Yogyakarta, Sidik Pramono, a staff member of the Yogyakarta meteorology , climatology and geophysics office, said here Monday.

"Up to now, there is no report of damage from the earthquake, but it caused panic among residents of Yogyakarta and its surroundings," he said.

The temblor was felt by inhabitants of Yogyakarta, Bantul, Klaten dna Sukojarjo, Central Java.
