Two gunmen destroyed, civilian killed in Dagestan.



MAKHACHKALA, September 13 (Itar-Tass) -- Two gunmen were destroyed and
a civilian was killed in a special operation in Dagestan on Sunday.
"The village chief's house, where the gunmen had entrenched, was
blocked at 9 pm Moscow time in the village Komsomolsky," a source in the
republican law enforcement agencies told Itar-Tass on Sunday. "The village
chief has put forward an ultimatum to the gunmen to lay down arms. When he
was going out of the house with four children, the gunmen starting
shooting at him in the back," the source said. "Two gunmen were killed in
the return fire," the source said.
The detectives are working at the incident site.

.Russia anti-terrorist committee not confirm 8 Gimry gunmen killed.

MOSCOW, September 13 (Itar-Tass) -- The Russian National
Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC) did not confirm some reports that a special
operation in Makhachkala had been targeted against the so-called Gimry
gang on Sunday, a NAC source told Itar-Tass.
Eight gunmen were earlier reported killed in a special operation in
Makhachkala on Sunday.
"Submachine guns, grenades, a large amount of ammunition,
communication devices and notebooks were found in the operation area. The
investigation is underway in the operation area," the NAC source said
earlier.

.Some 17 Vladikavkaz terror victims undergoing treatment in Moscow.

MOSCOW, September 13 (Itar-Tass) -- Some 17 people injured in a major
terrorist act in Vladikavkaz are undergoing treatment in Moscow, a source
in the Russian Ministry of Health and Social Development told Itar-Tass on
Sunday.
Three airplanes brought the injured people from the North Ossetian
capital to Moscow. The first airplane has brought 11 wounded people, the
second and third airplanes airlifted three terror victims each. All
injured people are in severe and moderate-to-severe condition. They were
brought to federal and city medical institutions. One injured child was
brought to the Moscow children's hospital number nine.
A horrible explosion went off at the gates to the Vladikavkaz central
marketplace on September 9. More than 160 people were injured. Over 100
people are undergoing treatment in Vladikavkaz, 17 people are being cured
in Moscow.
"Now it is necessary to focus on the aid and support for the injured
people," Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said. "The current top task is
the aid to the injured people, all kinds of medical services to them in
Vladikavkaz and Moscow and at other places if necessary, as well as the
moral and material assistance to the families of the injured people," the
president underlined.

.WARP conference to open in Vilnius.

VILNIUS, September 13 (Itar-Tass) -- The conference entitled "Russian
Language Media in the Pan-European Information Process", which the Council
of the World Association of the Russian Press (WARP) organized, will open
in the Lithuanian capital on Monday.
"Participants in the forum from more than 20 countries will discuss
the situation of Russian-language media in the pan-European information
context, as well as on the post-Soviet space, where the evaluation of this
press is far from always being adequate," the editor-in-chief and the
general director of the Lithuanian Courier weekly, Valery Tretyakov, a
WARP Council member who initiated the conference, told Itar-Tass.
High on the agenda of the conference are "Russia's information
expansion," which Russian language media allegedly pursue, the development
of the Russian press in the foreign language environment, the ways, in
which Russian language media presents the vital interests of Russian
communities, close and different problems of Russian language media in CIS
and non-CIS countries.
A delegation from the Russian state news agency ITAR-TASS, journalists
and publishers of Russian language media from more than 20 countries,
politicians, Lithuanian lawmakers and representatives of public
organizations will participate in the WARP conference.
The World Association of the Russian Press, which the news agency
ITAR-TASS initiated to establish in 1999, brings together the overwhelming
majority from more than 3,000 printed and electronic Russian language
media in 80 countries.
