BITUNG SUITABLE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE: MINISTER
Bitung, N Sulawesi, Indonesia, Sept 20 (ANTARA) - Bitung city in North Sulawesi meets the requirements for the development of a Special Economic Zone (KEK), Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi said.
"Bitung is very suitable to be developed as a special economic zone because its position overseeing the Pacific has the potentials to be developed as an international port that connects Indonesia with other Pacific countries," the minister said.
During his visit to Bitung on Sunday the minister said that economic factors should be considered in making an investment in the maritime service sector. After all, Bitung is rich in fishery potentials.
"We are of the view that the development strategy and attention of the Bitung government are in line with that of the central government," the minister said.
Therefore, he said, the regional government's intention to develop an ocean-going port had got wider attention, including that of the central government.
