VP TO LEAD DELEGATION AT MEETING WITH US BUSINESS LEADERS

Jakarta, Sept 21 (ANTARA) - Vice President Boediono will lead an Indonesian delegation at a business meeting with their US counterparts in New York on Thursday, a day ahead of the UN General Assembly.

At the meeting, Boediono will meet with former US president Bill Clinton and 20-30 business leaders, Chief of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Gita Wirjawan said at the Vice Presidential Palace here on Tuesday.
The meeting will be divided into two groups, he said.

At the first meeting, Boediono who will be seated beside Bill Clinton will hold a round table with 10-20 business leaders who mostly come from companies which care about the environment, he said.

At the one-hour meeting, Boediono will exchange ideas with the US businessmen about what steps the Indonesian government can take to attract more investment, he said.

The second meeting will be a business forum where the Indonesian delegation will meet with around 32 leaders of US leading companies engaged in oil and gas mining, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries, he said.

"Some of the businessmen have invested in both small and large scale businesses in Indonesia," he said.

"The business forum will serve as an important moment for us to convince local businessmen that Indonesia now sees a very conducive investment climate and can compete with other Asian countries such as Vietnam and China," he said.

The US was among the top five investors in Indonesia in the first semester of 2010, he said.

Vice President Boediono is scheduled to leave for the US on Wednesday. He will represent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the UN General Assembly and the US-ASEAN summit in New York at the end of this week.

The US-ASEAN summit scheduled for Sept 24 will be attended by almost all ASEAN leaders. The summit will be the second after last year in Singapore.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) groups Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand.***2***
