Over 192,000 Russian tourists visit Sharjah between January and August 2010

Sharjah, Sept 21, 2010 (WAM)- Sharjah has welcomed more than 192,000 Russian tourists between January and August 2010 - an 11 percent increase over the 173,880 tourists reported during corresponding period last year, Sharjah tourism regulator announced today.
In a marketing move that aims to boost Sharjah's position on the international tourism map, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) has announced the emirate's tenth participation in the 16th International Trade Fair for Travel and Tourism - Leisure Moscow 2010, taking place from 21 to 24 September 2010 at the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre in Moscow.
Sharjah's delegation to this year's Leisure Moscow event will comprise a number of senior representatives of organisations and government departments from the emirate.
Following its previous successful appearances at what is considered the most comprehensive tourism event worldwide, Sharjah's participation in the fair presents an opportunity for the emirate to add to its string of recent successes.
Leisure Moscow 2009 saw Sharjah receive a positive response from a diverse range of visitors and a great deal of interest from the global travel and tourism industry, and the emirate also received an award for ‘Most Active Participant' among 1,019 exhibitors from 107 countries.
Commenting on Sharjah's participation in this event, Mohamed A. Al Norman, SCTDA Director General, said that the emirate has become the destination of choice for a large number of tourists from all over the world.
"Supporting Sharjah's status as a leading global tourism destination is one of the SCTDA's top priorities. This can be partly accomplished through organising high-profile events that attract significant local and international interest, and also through participating in the world's most recognised travel and tourism gatherings, which present an ideal platform for us to highlight Sharjah's tourism attractions and appeal," Al Norman said.
He reiterated the importance of Sharjah's participation in the Leisure Moscow fair: "Our tenth participation in this exhibition indicates the importance we place on the rapidly growing Russian tourism sector. This market is of vital significance to the key players in Sharjah's tourism industry, and is one of the most critical for us, as Sharjah has already welcomed more than 192,000 Russian tourists between January and August 2010 - an 11 percent increase over the 173,880 tourists reported during corresponding period last year. This event is a focal point and gives us the opportunity to attract Russian tourists to Sharjah, network with renowned tourism and travel players in the Russian market, discuss avenues of cooperation, and further promote the Sharjah tourism brand in the Russian market." Sharjah has received a number of awards during its participation in previous editions of Leisure Moscow, including ‘Best Promotional Campaign' in 2004 and ‘Most Active Participant' in Leisure Moscow 2009.
