Yemen affirms commitment to MDGs for development sake

NEW YORK, Sep. 21 (Saba)-
Yemen has affirmed its commitment to implement the Millennium Development Goals
(MDGs) for
the sake of development to be included within the 3rd Five Year Plan for Economic
and Social Development and Poverty Alleviation.
It called for an international partnership in order to realize these development
goals as it is the corner stone for such an objective, asking at the same time
donor countries
to pay greater attention to the Least Developed Countries (LDC) which are still late
to achieve these development goals.
This came during Yemen Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi's speech, on behalf of
President Ali Abdullah Saleh the chairman of the Group of 77 and China, in front of
participants
in the 65th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.
He projected the problem facing the international community during the coming five
years prior to the time limit to achieve the MDGs by the year of 2015, specially
without
working within the international partnership for the sake of development.
His speech emphasized the importance of raising the level of support presented by
the donor countries to provide more resources in order to realize objectives of
poverty
eradication and ensure basic education for all, in addition to equality between the
two sexes, women economic and political empowerment and reinforcing public health
services.
