Gillard taking up residence in The Lodge

Julia Gillard will move into the prime minister's official Canberra residence during
the next couple of days.
Ms Gillard on Thursday said she had been waiting for repairs to be completed to The
Lodge before moving in.
"I will be seeking to move into The Lodge by the time parliament reopens next week,"
she told reporters in Canberra.
The new parliament meets for the first time next Tuesday.
Ms Gillard refused to move into The Lodge when she rolled former Labor leader Kevin
Rudd in June, saying she would wait until after the federal election.
She continued to stay in her Altona home, in suburban Melbourne, during and after
the election, even though there had been security issues.
Ms Gillard previously has said she would stay at the prime ministerial Kirribilli
House when in Sydney.
