No innocent worker would be sent back: Kuwait official

DHAKA, Bangladesh, July 30 (BSS)- Diplomatic efforts have been continuing by the government to resolve the on-going salaryrelated problems faced by the Bangladeshi workers in Kuwait.

The Charge d' Affaires of Bangladesh embassy in Kuwait AKM Mahiul Islam and the director general of the consular section of the Kuwait foreign ministry Shaikh Jaber Daij Al-Sabah, had a very fruitful meeting in this regard this morning, a foreignministry release said.

Shaikh Jaber said that action would be taken against the owners of those companies who would not pay 40 dinar as salary tothe workers.

"If required the Kuwait will take measures to scrap agreementbetween the government and the companies", he said.

Jaber further said that the government might take decision to transfer the employees of those companies to other companies ifthey fail to implement the government directives.

Shaikh Jaber noted that Kuwait is a peace loving country and they have no discriminatory attitude towards the Bangladeshiworkers.

The members of law enforcing agencies in Kuwait have taken precautionary measures to avoid violence. A total of 300 innocentworkers have already been released.

Based on video clippings and intelligence reports, he said that the Kuwait government has arrested some workers who actively participated in the violence and decided to send them back totheir country for the national interest of Kuwait.

The Charge d' Affaires thanked the Kuwaiti authorities for showing utmost tolerance and taking immediate steps to implementincreased salary for the workers.

Mahiul Islam also requested the Kuwaiti authority not totake any action against the innocent Bangladeshi workers.

He also requested the Kuwait government to release allworkers on humanitarian ground.

The Bangladesh embassy has been maintaining contact with therepresentatives of the companies and the Kuwait authorities.

About 16,000 striking workers have already joined their respective places of work following fruitful discussion, thepress release said.
