RPower awards Rs 10K cr order to GE for Samalkot project



New Delhi, Oct 24 (PTI) Anil Ambani Group firm Reliance
Power Sunday said it has awarded a Rs 10,000 crore equipment
order to GE Energy India for the expansion of its 2,400-MW
gas-based power project at Samalkot, in Andhra Pradesh.
GE will supply six frame 9FA gas turbines, 3 D-11 steam
turbines and generators for the power project under the
contract, Reliance Power said in a statement.
Reliance Power has also signed a 15-year contractual
service agreement under which GE will provide maintenance
services for the power project, it added.
"The order entails a project outlay of over Rs 10,000
crore and is the largest order for GE Energy in India,"
Reliance Power said.
The project, being implemented as part of the 11th Five-
Year Plan, is expected to commence power generation by March,
2012.
"We are delighted to begin this strategic long-term
partnership with a world leader like GE. With the combination
of resources and knowledge of GE & Reliance Power, we are
confident of creating a new record for project execution and
are hopeful of commissioning the project on a super fast-track
basis," Reliance Power CEO J P Chalsani said.
Reliance Power, along with its subsidiaries, has a
projects portfolio with a cumulative generation capacity of
37,000 MW, both operational as well as under development. The
company has substantial coal reserves in India and abroad. PTI
