Number of visitors to Shanghai Expo tops target of 70 mln

HONG KONG, Oct. 25 (Yonhap) -- More than 70 million people have so far visited
the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, exceeding the target number set by organizers,
according to its official Web site on Monday.
The biennial World Expo opened on May 1 for a six-month run under the theme of
"Better City, Better Life," with South Korea and 190 other countries and 50
international organizations participating. Organizers were aiming to attract 70
million visitors during the period.
With six days left until the close of the event, the Shanghai Expo has attracted
about 70.69 million people, according to the Web site.
As the Expo draws near to the end, the organizers have lifted a limit on the
number of daily visitors allowed.
On Sunday alone, 748,300 people visited the Shanghai fair, of which the maximum
daily capacity was originally estimated at 600,000.
At the Expo site, South Korea has attracted more than 6 million visitors to its three-story national pavilion built at a cost of about US$24 million. The 7,680-square-meter space is equipped with various facilities to host cultural events and sideshows.
