S Korea ready to cooperate with RF in Skolkovo innovation centre

SEOUL, October 25 (Itar-Tass) - South Korea is ready to cooperate with
Russia in the development of the Skolkovo innovation centre, South Korean
Minister of Education, Science and Technology Ju-Ho Lee said on Monday in
a joint exclusive interview with Itar-Tass and the central South Korean
newspaper Choongang Ilbo.
"As far as I know, in March 2010, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
announced plans to build the centre in Skolkovo and in September 2010
Russia adopted a relevant federal law," the minister pointed out.
The centre, designed to modernise the Russian economy, will focus on
research in the five key areas such as energy efficiency, nuclear energy,
medical equipment and technology, information technology, space
telecommunications. "South Korea plans to actively participate in these
five research spheres, involving to this end primarily the organisations
that are subordinated to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology
of the Republic of Korea and those that are engaged in spheres such as the
nuclear power industry," he said.
Speaking about the of Skolkovo project, the minister said that South
Korea has a similar centre - the Taedok technological park created in the
first half of the 1970s. "We would like to share our experience to help
the construction and development of the Skolkovo innovation project. A
total of 29 organisations that employ about 7,600 people, including
academicians, professors and researchers, currently work in the Taedok
centre," said Ju-Ho Lee.
