ACC will not compromise on big corruption: Mashhud

DHAKA, Bangladesh, Aug 6 (BSS)- Independent Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Lt. Gen. (retd) Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury today said the ACC would extend all out support to the Truth and Accountability Commission (TAC) to perform its activities, but will not compromise on big corruption.

"We want to help the Truth Commission by providing information about corruption on the basis of understanding and discussion, so that confusion is not created between the two commissions," he said reporters at his monthly press briefing at ACC conference room.

The ACC chairman said his commission would not sent any list of suspected corrupts to the Truth Commission. Information about graft cases would be provided after observing the nature of cases that the TAC deals with.

About the High Court challenging the legality of ACC Ordinance- 2007, Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury said, "We will wait for order of the higher court.

"If necessary the ACC Act will be amended after verdict of the highest court," he said adding, 'any verdict detrimental to ACC activities might affect the functions of many government agencies also." The chairman said the ACC is always following the legal process to handle the graft cases. So, the commission is not
frustrated with the interference of courts.

He said the ACC has prepared a draft for amendment to the concerned laws, which are causing problems to the commission to move with the graft cases in the higher courts.

The commission will submit a report to the government describing its success and failure over the last one year along with its recommendation for changing the law, the chairman said.
