NEW DELHI, November 19 (Itar-Tass) - India and Russia will shortly
sign an agreement on the construction of at least three enterprises for
joint production of medicines, Russia's Deputy Minister for Industry and
Trade Denis Manturov said on Friday.
In line with the reached agreements the plants will be built in
Russia. Three leading Russian pharmaceutical companies - Akrekhin,
Pharmsintez and R-Pharma cooperate with India on that. "Pharmaceutics is
one of the most promising directions of trade cooperation between Russia
and India," Manturov stressed.
He said the strategy for the development of pharmaceutical industry in
Russia up till the year 2020 contributes to the development of
Russian-Indian cooperation in that sector. In accordance with that
program, Russia expects to increase the production of domestic medicines
2.5 times, to 50 percent before 2020. The strategy envisages a change not
only in quantitative but also in qualitative characteristics of medicines.
On the whole, the Russian pharmaceutical market amounting to about 18
billion dollars, is expected to grow to 60 billion dollars by 2020.
