IRKUTSK, November 23 (Itar-Tass) - Direct flights were opened on
Tuesday between the regional centre of Russia's Baikal region, Irkutsk,
and the second biggest city of Kyrgyzstan, Osh, sources from the Irkutsk
airport management told Tass on Tuesday.
The first flight was made by an A-320 airbus operated by Kyrgyz
Airways, they said. The route was opened because it is in big demand.
According to the deputy head of the regional public organisation Druzhba
(Friendship), Nurlan Apiyev, big Kyrgyz diaspora lives in the Baikal
region and neighbouring Buryatia. Over 100 passengers arrived from Osh to
Irkutsk and the same number of passengers flew to Osh on Tuesday.
Osh has become the 11th international direction in the winter
timetable of Irkutsk. Flights are also made to Thailand (Bangkok, Phuket),
China (Beijing, Sanya and Shenyang), South Korea (Seoul), Mongolia
(Ulan-Bator), Uzbekistan (Tashkent) and Tajikistan (Dushanbe and
Khudzhand).
In January-October this year the passenger flow on international
routes grew 75 percent as compared with the same period last year.
