Russia can help Nepal to upgrade, build HPPs - Putin.

ST. PETERSBURG, November 24 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian Prime Minister
Vladimir Putin had a meeting with his Nepalese counterpart Madhav Kumar
Nepal here on Wednesday. The Nepalese premier was participating in a forum
for the preservation of tigers in St. Petersburg.
Putin thanked his Nepalese counterpart for the participation in the
joint work and offered to discuss the development of bilateral relations.
"The relations between our countries are traditionally friendly and today
we could speak about the development of contacts," Putin said. The most
promising trend of Russian-Nepalese cooperation can be the infrastructure
development, particularly the construction of hydropower plants and the
modernization of the facilities built in Nepal with the assistance of the
Soviet Union, the Russian premier noted.
The Nepalese prime minister supported this initiative, recalling that
the Soviet Union had built the first hydropower plant in Nepal and had
assisted to build the major industrial enterprises of those times in the
country.
