RF, China cooperate to tackle drug threat - Viktor Ivanov.

BEIJING, November 24 (Itar-Tass) - Russia and China maintain effective
cooperation to tackle the drug threat, head of the Federal Service for
Drugs Control and Psychotropic Substances Circulation Viktor Ivanov told
Itar-Tass.
Ivanov, who is currently on a three-day working trip to China, said:
"Relations between the structures of the two countries can be considered
effective and rather intensive."
"Practically in two years we have had three meetings with the Chinese
minister of public security. During the meetings, we have worked out
concrete plans for cooperation. Both parties have held three regional
conferences that allowed us to implement the earlier reached agreements,"
Ivanov stressed.
"I'd like to stress the role played by Russia and China in the
anti-drug trend within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. Last May we
succeeded in elaborating a three-step decision-making mechanism within the
SCO," he added.
"During our bilateral meetings and consultations, we also worked out
approaches towards stepping up the SCO activity as an international legal
entity and using the U.N. Security Council's possibilities to coordinate
efforts aimed at halting drug production in Afghanistan," the Russian top
official said.
