BMW to recall over 300 cars for faulty fuel pump electrical system

SEOUL, Nov. 25 (Yonhap) -- BMW Korea plans to voluntarily recall 300 vehicles sold in South Korea for a faulty fuel pump electrical system, the government said Thursday.
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said the German luxury car manufacturer found problems in the electrical system that supplies power to the motor inside the fuel pump. The problem can affect the ignition mechanism, making it hard to start the car, or cause the vehicle to lose power while it is on the road.
The problem involves BMW's X5 model made from Nov. 30, 2007 through Aug. 28 of the following year.
"The recall is voluntary after the manufacturer discovered the fault," the ministry said.
The car maker will change the faulty systems free of charge starting Friday at BMW Korea's car repair service stations nationwide. Car owners who fixed the problem on their own before the recall can be reimbursed.
