TWO WOMEN GET 10 YEARS` JAIL FOR TRAFFICKING IN JUVENILES FOR SEX EXPLOITATION

MELAKA (Malaysia), Nov 25 (Bernama) -- A cake seller and her friend were each sentenced to 10 years' jail by the Sessions Court here Wednesday after they pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking and deceiving juveniles for commercial sex exploitation in the middle of this year.

On the first count, Roslina Md Snor, 23, from Kampung Jambatan Duyung in Melaka Tengah, and Siti Normaslinda Masrol Mohamad, 22, from Kampung Tehel, Bemban in Jasin, were charged with trafficking a 15-year-old juvenile for sexual exploitation at the Everyday Hotel in Jalan Tun Ali, here in May 2010.

On the second count, both of them were charged with deceiving another 15-year-old juvenile for the same purpose between June 30 and July 1, 2010.

They were charged under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act 2007, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of not less than three years and not exceeding 20 years.

Both Roslina and Normaslinda, who were clad in red T-shirts, nodded that they understood and pleaded guilty to the charges read by the court interpreter before Judge Zaharah Hussin.


Zaharah then sentenced the duo to five years' jail for each count and ordered the sentences to run consecutively.

"What will you feel if others do the same to your siblings or relatives? I advise both of you to repent and do not make the same mistake again," she said.

Deputy public prosecutor Mahmoodiah Abdul Latiff prosecuted while Roslina and Normaslinda were not represented.
