MEDIA EFFECTIVE IN CREATING AWARENESS ON CORRUPTION ISSUE - MINISTER

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The role of the media in reporting on the
issue of corruption can be regarded as effective as it has resulted in public
abhorrence for corruption.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohamed Nazri Aziz
said with the freedom allowed for the media, which had also become increasingly
sophisticated, their role was seen as big, especially in ensuring continued
development and prosperity in the country.

"The media practitioners are capable of influencing public thinking in
evaluating the government'a performance including its National Key Result Area
on corruption," he said at the Media Appreciation Night and launching of the
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's jingle, here, Wednesday night.

Nazri said the media practitioners were also capable of "pressuring" the
government to make new policies to ensure justice and fairness for the victims
of corruption.

"As a government, we must be trustworthy and responsible to every level of
society and it will be effective if it acts as a good watchdog in channelling
accurate information for public knowledge," he said.
