Bangladesh elected to two top international postal bodies

GENEVA, Aug 7 (BSS)-Bangladesh has been elected to two top
international postal bodies at elections as the International
Postal Congress is underway in this Swiss city.

"Bangladesh's election to Council of Administration (CA) and
the postal operations Council (POC) is recognition to its
importance in the international postal activities," a statement
issued by the Bangladesh mission in Geneva said.

The Council of Administration carries on all governance
related activities of the 191-member Universal Postal Union in
between the Congress sessions, which are held every four years.

The postal Operations Council is responsible for operational,
commercial, technical and economic postal matters. Both the
Councils have 40 members each.

With almost 10,000 outlets, Bangladesh Post office is
catering to the demands of a population of about 150 million
people providing a wide range of services including facilitating
remittance transfer of NRBs.

The statement said with these global policy level
memberships, Bangladesh Post would get exposure to modern systems
and practices that would help improve the quality of its
services.

Bangladesh would also have a greater say in negotiations
related to international postal operations, including the
financial arrangements, which can be beneficial to the country,
it said.
