Holiday road toll rises to 14

The national road toll is now 14 after the ACT recorded its first death of the
Christmas-New Year holiday period and another person killed in Queensland.
Patrolling police found the body of a man - believed to be a 46-year-old from
Bonython - in a smashed ute in Greenway, in Canberra's south, on Tuesday night.
The silver Holden ute had crashed into a culvert.
A crash reconstruction team are investigating the cause of the accident.
In far north Queensland, a driver died after skidding in a pool of water while
trying to overtake another vehicle on Davidson Road, Euramo, near Innisfail about
3.45pm (AEST) on Wednesday.
Police said his sedan hit a mass of water, skidded off the roadway and hit a tree.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, died as a result of his injuries.
He was the only person in the car.
So far, Victoria has recorded four road deaths, while NSW and Queensland have
recorded three, and Western Australia two.
Tasmania and the ACT have each recorded one death on their roads.
South Australia and the Northern Territory remain fatality-free.
