S. Korea to vaccinate all livestock to stem FMD

SEOUL, Jan. 12 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Wednesday decided to vaccinate all
livestock nationwide as foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) has spread across the
country despite more concerted quarantine measures.
The farm ministry said after an emergency meeting chaired by President Lee
Myung-bak that there is a need to take tough "preemptive" steps to halt the
spread of the highly contagious animal disease.
"The use of vaccines in areas that have not reported FMD cases have been
authorized as an aim to control the disease and limit the number of animals that
have to be culled," it said.
