Draft law on historic cities preservation approved

SANA'A, Feb.08 (Saba)- The Cabinet on Tuesday a draft law on the preservation of historical cities, areas and monuments
and their cultural and architectural heritage.
In this regard, the Cabinet directed Minister of Legal Affairs to coordinate with Minister of State for Parliament and Shura Council Affairs to complete the required constitutional
procedures for issuing it.
The law aims to achieve the role ofthe General Authority for the Preservation of Historical Cities in maintaining and protecting historic cities and areas, as well as organizing
principles, rules and procedures of the preservation to ensure enhancing of the State policies in this area.
In addition, the law aims to help in fulfilling the obligations stipulated in international conventions and treaties signed by the country in this respect, including the
International Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
The draft law is located in 155 articles distributed to nine chapters covering labels, definitions, scope of the force, general provisions, registration and its effects,
maintenance plan, rules and controls of the preservation process, licensing, traditional crafts, the economic support for the listed sites, penalties and final provisions.
