Paris marks 20th anniversary of restoration of Azerbaijan’s independence

Baku (TREND) - Azerbaijan made an important contribution to the development of international cooperation, French Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand stated while addressing to the ceremony, dedicated to the upcoming 20th anniversary of the restoration of Azerbaijan’s independence in Paris.
The French minister welcomed the Azerbaijani guests led by President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Good-will Ambassador, MP Mehriban Aliyeva , ITAR-TASS reported.

“Azerbaijan has achieved remarkable successes in promoting education and culture,” Mitterand said. “The ancient art of mugham, Azerbaijani literature, works of theatre directors and filmmakers are of great interest in France.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s charity activities include support to restoration projects in France: in the Palace of Versailles and in the Strasbourg Cathedral.

Mrs Aliyeva stressed the great potential of cultural exchanges between the two countries. France has opened the program for the celebrations of the upcoming 20th anniversary of the restoration of independence of Azerbaijan abroad. The President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation spoke about the development of the tourism industry and invited participants of the evening to visit Azerbaijan.
The concert of the Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra conducted by Teymur Geychaev was warmly greeted by participants of the gala night.

The compositions of Kara Karaev, Fikret Amirov, and other prominent composers of Azerbaijan were performed during the event.
Gavo Concert Hall, which hosted the ceremonial evening, is one of the famous places where prestigious contests, large meetings of the business world and political parties are held.
Azerbaijan will mark the 20th anniversary of restoration of the country’s independence on Oct.18, 2011.
A constitutional act "On the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan" was adopted at the session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Oct. 18, 1991. By this act Azerbaijan stated that it is successor of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and declared its state independence and sovereignty to the international community. This day went down in history as the day of the restoration of Azerbaijan's state independence. Flag, anthem and national emblem of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was admitted as the state attributes, and May 28, the day of establishment of the republic, is celebrated as Republic Day.
