MOSCOW, February 23 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's Emergencies Ministry
(EMERCOM) will support Tajikistan in evacuation of its citizens from
Libya, Head of the Ministry's International Affairs Department Yuri
Brazhnikov said on Wednesday.
"At the order of Russia's president, EMERCOM evacuates from Libya
Russia's citizens, and we are prepared to support Tajikistan and other CIS
countries in evacuation of their citizens," he said. "We have all related
agreements with the CIS countries, but the priority remains to evacuate
Russia's citizens."
On Tuesday, Tajikistan forwarded a note via diplomatic channels to
Russia's Foreign Ministry, spokesman of Tajikistan's Foreign Ministry
Davlat Nazriyev said on Wednesday. The country's 21 citizens remain in
Libya, half of them are students of one of Tripoli's Islamic universities.
"All attempts of our Embassy in Moscow to establish contacts with the
Tajiks in Libya failed for the absence of communication," he explained and
stressed that the country did not have a diplomatic representation in
Tripoli. "Russia is working on possibilities to evacuate its citizens from
that country by two ways - by air and by a ferry via Turkey." The country
hopes that Russia's government will provide support in the evacuation.
