Vietnam Customs General Department has undertaken to improve its customer service

Hanoi (VNA) — The Customs General Department has undertaken to improve its customer service to better meet the requirements of international trade, investment and tourism.

The department on Feb. 22 revealed its new declaration to provide customers with more professional, transparent and effective services from next month.

Deputy director general Nguyen Duong Thai said the new declaration was a strong commitment to society to make services convenient and to meet the State management need for customs services for international trade, investment and tourism.

Offices would be required to complete a customs registration within 30 minutes (except for a difficult file with more than 10 significant items). A lawful and complete tax-exempt file would also be handled within 10 working days from the day of acceptance.

Customs would have to give feedback on all customer requests within five working days.

A declaration was important if Customs was to better serve the community and to meet the country's development demands, Thai said.

Customs statistics showed that it collected more than 8 billion USD in taxes last year, an increase of more than 18 percent compared with 2009.

This year, it wanted to exceed the Government's target of 8.6 billion USD tax collection, reducing the rate of reality checks and customs clearance times and tightly controlling export-import activities.
