Preparation for 5th international "Eurasia" film festival

Almaty, 20 August 2008, (Khabar) - We now know the names of five nominees for the 5th international film festival "Eurasia" which will take place in September. Eleven full-length films and 15 short films will be presented.

Kazakhstan residents will be able to see the new film by Kazakhstan director Ardak Amirkulov, "Farewell, Gulsary", based on Chingis Aitmatov's book. This year's Eurasia festival will take place in Astana instead of Almaty and has also changed its format. It will now present films only from Kazakhstan,Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Igor Vovnyanko, chairman of the RK cinematographer's union: - The fact is that we now have the possibility to watch what is happening inthe world of cinematography in the Central Asia region.

The selection panel was in session all summer and according to movie critics there are very good films among the ones presented, including, of course, those from Kazakhstan directors. Experts are also very happy with the films from Uzbekistan. They have made their choice. However, the festival jury hasthe last word.
