Radiation background in Russian Far East-normal

KHABAROVSK, March 13 (Itar-Tass) - The radiation background in the
Russian Far East is "normal, and there will be no threat to Russia's
eastern territories over the next few days", Itar-Tass learnt on Sunday from head of the Far Eastern territorial agency for hydrometeorology and
environmental monitoring Alexander Gavrilov.
According to the agency head, "the radiation background in the
Khabarovsk Territory and the Jewish Autonomous Region is under 12-15
micro-roentgen/hr at the norm of 30 micro-roentgen". The Khabarovsk
Territory set up a network of 25 observation points for monitoring the
radiation situation. Similar points are in operation in the Jewish
Autonomous Region, the Amur Region and neighbouring regions.
The agency head confirmed that winds from the west to the east will prevail over the vast territory in the next few days, and radioactive substances, getting into air as a result of the eruption at the Japanese nuclear power station, will be sent by air currents to the Pacific.
The Amur Region branch of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies
reported on Sunday that the region has over 60 stations of monitoring and laboratory control. The radiation background in the region is within the norm - 12 micro-roentgen/hr.
Specialists of the Emergencies Ministry, territorial weather
subdivisions and other structures constantly examine data of monitoring as well as information coming from Japan.
