M'SIA DELIVERS 20 MILLIONTH INVENTION IN DERWENT WORLD PATENTS INDEX

SINGAPORE, March 18 (Bernama) -- The IP Solutions business of Thomson Reuters Friday announced that its Derwent World Patents Index® (DWPI(SM)) database registered its 20 millionth invention, a patent record from Malaysia.
In a statement, the company said this historic milestone is a result of recent enhancements in the coverage of Asia-Pacific patents in DWPI.
The 20 millionth invention in DWPI is MY 140727A, from IEV Group, a Malaysian oil and marine industry services company headquartered in Selangor.
It describes a band-saw system for cutting pipes such as oil pipelines underwater, supporting Malaysia’s petroleum production and refining industry.
Inventors of this record have been recognised with a certificate
commemorating the status of their invention.
Created in 1963, the Thomson Reuters DWPI database enables professionals to more easily research and understand the world’s innovations through editorially enhanced English-language abstracting and indexing of patent documents from 44 patent issuing authorities globally.
This includes the Asia-Pacific patent data from Malaysia, Thailand
and Vietnam.
DWPI contains 20 million inventions covering 43.5 million individual patents and is used globally by thousands of organisations and 36 patent offices, making it the world’s most trusted and authoritative patent database.
Thomson Reuters senior director of product management Rob Adams said customers count on DWPI to be the definitive source of worldwide patent data, especially for countries that are difficult to source or search.
"We understand how critical emerging markets are to our customers and continue to extend our lead in English-language coverage for Asian, Latin American and Eastern European authorities," he explained.
