Attacks against power lines plunge Yemen into darkness

SANA'A, March 20 (Saba) - Yemen was plunged into darkness on Sunday after saboteurs attacked a number of the electric
towers in Marib province. The attacked power lines were of those supplying power from Marib gas-fired power station to Yemen's capital, plunging the Secretariat Capital into
darkness and affecting the whole national power system, a source at the Ministry of Electricity and Energy said. The power lines in Safer, Marib, came under heavy fire by
saboteurs, 62 km from the station, with at least two circuits affected and then the entire station sent out of service, the source made it clear. The sabotage act also sent
other power stations connected to the national power system out of service except the one in Makha, Taiz, the source said, pointing out that most of the Yemeni cities were
plunged into darkness. An engineering team could tackle the damages to the national power stations two hours later but Marib station remains out of service, the source said,
adding that about 40 per cent of the power supply is being lost and this means programmed outages will take place in the coming days.
