MAN DROWNED IN RIVER AFTER CAUGHT FISHING ILLEGALLY

Sidoarjo, E Java, April 6 (ANTARA) -The Search and Rescue (SAR) team is looking for a man who drowned in Juanda River after being caught fishing illegally with four friends in the river near an airport, a police officer said.

Adjunct Commissioner Dodon Priambodo said here Tuesday they jumped into the river when being caught by pollice who were on patrol, man who drowned was Jazuri.

"Jazuri was fishing in the pool with his friends and caught by the police. Then they tried to flee by crossing the river," he said.

The pool which was full of small fish was a sewer for waste water from the airport, he added.

Dodon said the police shouted through loud speaker to ask the man to leave the pool. They were afraid of being caught, panicked and ran away, he said.

"The residents reported to us and asked for help to find Jazuri, but the police could not find him. Therefore, we need SAR assistance and Juanda airport officers to look for the missing man," Dodon added.

The search was done by using four rubber boats, which belonged to the National Search and Rescue Agency, one from SAR of Juanda airport and the other from local residents.
