Germany grants 4 million euros for reducing emission from deforestation in Laos

VIENTIANE,APRIL 5 .(KPL) - German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) has granted 45 billion kip (4 million euros) for the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) in the Lao PDR.
The signing ceremony of the REDD held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, on 1 April.
Signatories to the document were Director of Forestry Department, Mr. Silavanh Savadvong, representing the Lao government and Country Representative of the GIZ to Laos, Ms. Petra Mutlu in the witnesses of Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Sitaheng Rasphol and Ambassador of Germany to Laos, Mr. Peter Wienand and relevant officials.
The purpose of the project is to implement the Lao Government’s strategy on climate change prevention by avoiding of deforestation and the protection of national forests of Nampui, Nam Aed and Phouleuy.
This project is designed at reducing carbon emission in the forms of participation of sector concerned into the protection campaign of national forests, the establishment of measures, report, inspection of quantity of air pollution and helping to increase the forest coverage by 70 per cent in 2020.
