Advisory (Shura) Council Delegation Leaves for Panama


Doha, April 11 (QNA) - A delegation from the Advisory (Shura) Council left Doha this evening for Panama to attend the 124th the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly session and the188th Governing Council session to be held as from April 15 for six days.
Among the topics on the agenda of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union at its new session are provision of a legislative framework aimed at preventing electoral violence, improving the electoral observation, ensuring a smooth transition of power, the role of parliaments in ensuring sustainable development through the management of natural resources, agricultural production and demographic change, transparency and accountability in the funding of political parties and electoral campaigns.
The188th of the Governing Council session will see discussion of a number of reports, including the work of the IPU to strengthen democracy and parliamentary institutions, the Report of the President of the Federation and the annual report of the Secretary-General on the activities of the Union in 2010, as well as parliamentary action in support of the High Commission of the United Nations on Issues of refugees and their protection, and the financial report for the fiscal year ended 2010.
