S. Korean PM and Chinese president discuss closer ties

(ATTN: UPDATES with Kim's meeting with Korean correspondents in Beijing in paras 7-11; CHANGES headline, dateline)
BEIJING/SANYA, China, April 14 (Yonhap) -- South Korean Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik will meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao on a southern Chinese island on Thursday for discussions on boosting their two countries' bilateral relationship, Seoul officials said.
Kim, who arrived in Beijing on Tuesday, will fly to the southern Chinese island of Hainan to attend the Boao Forum for Asia, an annual regional economic forum that kicks off later Thursday.
During his meeting with the Chinese leader in Sanya, a city near the venue of the three-day forum, Kim is expected to propose that Hu visit Seoul to attend the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit next spring, the officials said.

Kim and Hu will exchange opinions on ways to strengthen relations, the political situation on the Korean Peninsula and other issues of mutual interest, they said.
Kim is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero later in the day to discuss ways to expand substantive cooperation with the countries in various fields.
Kim will then attend cultural performances celebrating the eve of the Boao Forum along with leaders from other participating countries.
Also on Thursday, Kim had a breakfast meeting with South Korean correspondents in Beijing.
He said Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao asked for Seoul's declaration of a plan to start negotiations for a free trade agreement with China during their talks held Wednesday in the Chinese capital.
"Wen said that the governments can open negotiations first and discuss possible problems of the deal in the negotiating process," Kim told reporters.
The South Korean premier, however, said he told Wen that a "full examination" of the pact's impact to both countries must precede any declaration of the negotiations to make them productive.
The two governments have already completed a joint feasibility study of the FTA but have yet to kick off the negotiating process.
Kim is scheduled to return home Friday after delivering a keynote address in the opening ceremony of the forum.
