BRICS leaders draft plan of action for developing cooperation

SANYA (China), April 14 (Itar-Tass) -- The leaders of the BRICS
countries have drafted a plan of action for the development of economic
relations and cooperation of civil society structures. In the opinion of
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, this is a promising document, which
will make it possible to develop traditional and new forms of cooperation.
"This is an important event at our meeting. The plan lays emphasis on
the development of economic relations, on cooperation within the framework
of Group 20 and on more active drawing of civil society structures into
our cooperation," Medvedev said in his statement on the results of the
BRICS summit.
"Russia has made its contribution to the drafting of the plan and will
take an active part in its putting into effect," he said. "Aside from it,
we suggested the development of new forms of cooperation in the sphere of
science, technology and innovations. We also put forward a number of other
initiatives." Medvedev hopes that "our proposals will be analysed in
detail by our partners." He promised to carefully analyse the ideas of
"our colleagues by BRICS."
A joint declaration of the BRICS leaders says that the BRICS countries
are "full of resolve to convert political vision into concrete deeds." "We
approve the suggested plan of action, which will serve as a basis for
further cooperation. We shall discuss its fulfilment at our next meeting,"
the BRICS leaders wrote in the declaration.
The plan of action consists of three parts. The first part deals with
the stepping up of the implementation of cooperation programmes. The
second part deals with new spheres of cooperation. The third part contains
proposals to be analysed. These include a possibility of cooperation in
the sphere of the "green economy" and the creation in UNESCO of the
BRICS-UNESCO group for the purpose of working out a common strategy within
the framework of the mandate of that organisation.
