METALS FOR OLYMPIC MEDALS TO BE MINED HERE
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Rio Tinto Group headquarted in the UK has been selected by the London 2012 Olympic Games organizing committee as an official provider of metals for medals.
In accordance with the partnership, the Group will supply gold, silver and copper to the Summer Olympic's committee for producing 4,700 medals. The Rio Tinto said the gold and copper will be mined from its Kennecott Utah Copper mine in Salt Lake City, USA, and the Oyu Tolgoi mine in Mongolia.
"It is a great honor for us to take the responsibility for producing the Olympic medals," CEO and board member of the Rio Tinto Group Tom Albanese said.
The design of the London Olympic Games' medals will be introduced to the public this summer.
