Belarus confirms plans to launch satellite in 2011
MINSK, April 21 (Itar-Tass) -- Belarus confirmed its plans to launch a
satellite in 2011.
"It will happen this year. Work is underway. Maybe we are too
cautious, but we must be confident that this is going to be a working
system," Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
The Belarusian Earth remote sensing satellite will be launched along
with the Russian spacecraft Kanopus-V from Baikonur.
Eighteen satellites, including the first Belarusian satellite BelKA
worth about 10 million U.S. dollars were lost as a result of a Dnepr
carrier rocket abortive launch from Baikonur in late July 2006.
